Jorgensen's use of the circle for his Orbit series of glass bowls was a departure from the free-form shapes he had made before.
The new bowls were designed to balance at an angle to highlight the orbits of pin marks.
These marks were created by positioning pins in concentric circles in a Reconfigurable Tooling Device (RPT), heating flat glass discs and letting gravity force the glass through the series of apertures. The settings of the pin orbits were unique to each
Whilst the production of the Orbit series was through analogue glass-shaping techniques, digital design and fabrication tools were fundamental in enabling the construction of the RPT system employed to produce the bowls.
