Brain Coral 2020
A selection of work by Nicola Bealing including paintings, gouaches and small oils in startling, bright colours using underwater images which she equates to our locked-down cut-off state.
We are also delighted to offer a set of her 8 Broadsides prints which originate from her investigation of the history of the Foundling Museum Hospital and Hogarth. The title refers to the 17th/18th century broadside ballads which is where their subject matter, imagery and titles come from. A set is in the collection of The British Museum, London.
Nicola writes “The eight prints were all made in 2019 as part of a project based on the archives of the Foundling Museum (where they were on show until September 1st 2019 as part of my exhibition ‘A New Song (To an Old Tune)’.) I became fascinated with the titles and narratives of broadside ballads and they were a very rich source of visual inspiration”.
