Stephen Chambers R.A. The Court of Redonda

Stephen Chambers RA: The Court of Redonda
The Heong Gallery, Downing College, Cambridge CB2 1DQ
24 February – 20 May 2018 (closed)

The Court of Redonda is a group of 101 oil on panel portraits of an imaginary utopian court dominated by creative people. Curated by Emma Hill as a collateral event of the 2017 Venice Biennnale, it was exhibited at Ca’Dandolo  – a palazzo on the Grand Canal.

The novelist Javier Marias has written about the collisions between fact and fiction involved in the legend that has developed around Redonda a tiny uninhabited island in the Caribbean Sea.

The Heong Gallery opened a year ago with Generation Painting 1955-65 British Art from the Collection of Sir Alan Bowness. Generation Painting 1955-65 British Art from the Collection of Sir Alan Bowness. See more about the Stephen Chambers exhibition here

The Gallery was converted by the architect Caruso St. John from the former stables into a beautiful simple space.

Whilst you are in Cambridge visit Kettle’s Yard which has just reopened (Closed Mondays).
