Ceramic sculptures were slip cast, allowing her to achieve geometric forms with flawless sides and well-defined edges, which could then be given a more personal and fluid identity. In 2022 Elizabeth not only graduated from RCA she was also commissioned by Critics’ Circle for the Visual Arts and Architecture Award for Iwona Blazwick for her 20 years’ contribution as director of the Whitechapel Gallery. Elizabeth Degenszejn’s handbuilt and slip-cast parian clay sculptures reveal the tensions created between the desire to individuate and the need to comply with what is expected of you.
